Rugby Update: On the field, the sheer toughness of a Rugby League player cannot be questioned. But, judging from this latest ugly episode, it seems that, off the field, it’s a different story.

If you had been reading the recent news, you would think Matthew Johns was the only person who had intercourse with a 19-year-old girl in Christchurch in 2002, when on tour with his club, Cronulla.
No charges were laid then and none will be. But it is known that there were up to six players in the room that night. Not one, besides Johns, has admitted their role.
Johns has admitted that what he did was wrong, but he is adamant he did nothing illegal and that the act was consensual.
Through this, as a result of his media profile, he has been made to stand and accept all the blame. It is time the other involved on that night came and confessed to ease the pressure on Johns. He has lost his job at Channel 9, for now, and his place as assistant coach at Melbourne Storm.
The time is right for others to admit their part. Johns has been hung, drawn and quartered, while others – who did the same thing – have watched on.
Yes, they would feel sorry for their former teammate, but their guilt is not to a level where they feel the need to apologise to the woman – like Johns has. Whether the players did something illegal is an argument for another day, but his mates need to confess.
